Two Summer Schools on Open-Source Geo Tools

Registration now is open for two International Summer Schools introducing to open-source geo tools, organized by Spatial Ecology and held at the University of Basilicata in Matera, Italy. Without assuming previous programming skills, geo data users will be guided to immerse into the power and wealth of open-source tools, ranging from desktop to high-performance data processing. Specifically, experts from the rasdaman team will introduce to Big Geo Data.

See rasdaman in Action - live at EGU 2016!

The EGU General Assembly 2016 provides an essential opportunity to find out more about the technical innovations and web services developed in the EarthServer project, which uses rasdaman as its platform core. Learn more about spatio-temporal analysis on Big Earth Datacubes in different geo domains. The EarthServer initiative establishes a series of novel high performance datacube services. At the EGU conference the partners will demonstrate these innovations through a series of live demos, poster sessions, and presentations as follows:

EarthServer joins BiDS16

The third “Big Data from Space” conference was held by ESA at Tenerife in March 15-17, with a record of an estimated 300 science, industry, and agency participants. EarthServer was represented with a fair booth and a keynote talk on advanced use of standards. Already on the first day, a who's who in EO stopped by for a chat and exchanged. As it turns out, rasdaman, the leading array database technology, was well known and being used for advanced EO services by many institutions all over Europe.

“Floodhack” helps mitigating Floods

On 16/17 January, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) organized the first hackathon on a Global Flood Awareness System (GloFAS). More than 60 participants from research organizations, universities and industries joined for improving accessibility and visualization of GloFAS data by creating new downstream applications.

Elephant Meeting on Big Data Services

While we try to get to grips with the ever-increasing “Big Data” deluge we recognize that adequate Web services are a key prerequisite for ubiquitous, flexible, and fast data access. In a massive concertation effort several large European initiatives have teamed up now to address the service challenge. From 12 through 13 November 2015 an inaugural EUDAT Workshop on services for Big Data held successfully at the Supercomputing Center in Barcelona, Spain. Representatives of three decisive Big Data projects - EUDAT, EarthServer, and EPOS - have come together to discuss innovative alternatives for value-adding services.
